Hathersage open air pool A large (100ft X 33ft) open air swimming pool with water heated to 82°F (28°c), hot poolside showers, lawns and views of Stanage Edge, Hathersage Church and the surrounding hills. There is also a hard play area for children, a beautiful, safe playing field adjacent to the pool, for picnics and a games and tennis facilities.
Carsington Water The reservoir is one of the UK's biggest at 750 acres, renowned for it's cystal clear water there is something for everyone to enjoy. Offering activities to the members of the public for both land based and water borne activities which include: Sailing, Windsurfing, Paddlesports, Mountain bike hire, Fly Fishing.
Canoeing on the Canal, Cromford Half Day (Instruction Available Mid March - 31st October) A fantastic introduction to canoeing for those who have never been in a canoe before. Great for families too - Its the ideal way to start. Flat and calm to lean basic canoe handling techniques with your partner. A short journey will be incorporated to gain confidence with your new skills. Challenges and games can be set for those that require further challenge! Full Day Canoeing Combine a Canal and River Trip (Instruction Available Mid March - 31st October). These days are fantastic for those with little or no experience, but looking for a fabulous introduction to canoeing in the Peak District. Specializing in having small groups - max 6. Led by a highly qualified and experienced instructor. The days adventure is spit in two, the mornings instruction is on flat water along Cromford Canal to enable you to become comfortable with basic boat handling skills with your partner. The afternoons instruction sees you progressing to the challenge of a journey down the River Derwent. Acquiring further skills to negotiate moving water, rapids, under bridges and the skill to avoid rocks!! This activity is subject to appropriate water levels being available. Activity is most suitable for teenagers and above. Canoe River Trip Half Day (Available Mid March - 31st October) An awesome canoe trip down the River Derwent in the Peak District for those with more confidence or experience to jump straight on to moving water. After a thorough safety briefing begin descent of the river, practicing some skills new and old at the start in order to negotiate moving water, rapids, under bridges and avoid those rocks!! All this through some of Derbyshire's stunning scenery.
Picnicing by the river There is nothing better than spending a day relaxing by a river and Derbyshire has many beautiful riverside spots. Chatsworth Estate is a popular spot for for a picnic and the River Derwent is great for a swim. At Dovedale you can enjoy the stepping across the river via its famous stepping stones. If you fancy a quiet spot away from everything try Burbage Brook which runs between The Toads Mouth near Foxhouse, down to Grindelford. You'll need to park on the road then take a shot walk to find the brook but you'll easily find a spot where there'll be no one else around.
