The Great Outdoors

With 555 square miles of outstanding and largely unspoilt scenery, taking in the limestone plateaus and dales of the White Peak and the brooding gritstone moors of the Dark Peak, you will find a walk, be it on your doorstep or further a field, to suit all abilities and tastes.

You can ride old pack horse trails or treck over the moors, lunching at the Cat & Fiddle. There are rides to suit all standards.

Adventure down magnificent show caves and discover a wonder world stalacmites and stalagtites and see in situ, as it is the only place in the UK, the semi-precious Blue John Stone. If you have a head for heights then hand gliding or ballooning might take your fancy.

Take to the waters at one of the Peak District’s reservoirs and you’ll find a great way to escape sailing or windsurfing and theres plenty of opportunites for canoeing and kayaking in the rivers and canals. There is an indoor pool in Matlock if you fancy a swim and an open air pool at Hathersage during the summer months offering the opportunity to swim amidst the glorious Peak District scenery, in water which is heated to 28°C.

Whether it be strolling around spectacular Rhododendron gardens, discovering the diverse bird-life in the area, improving your game of golf or fancy a spot of fishing, there is plenty to do when you just fancy taking it slow.
